Green credentials, gold award

Smart Display has been recognised for its commitment to sustainability with a gold award from the Better Stands programme. The accolade was in recognition of the stand builder’s work at Food Ingredients Europe, which took place in Frankfurt last month.

Working closely with our design agency partner Bluestorm, Smart Display created a stand that ticked all of the criteria outlined by the Better Stands programme. As independently assessed by Abraxys Global, Smart Display’s re-usable stand structure, furniture, lighting, ceiling, flooring and graphics gave the stand a rating of green in all categories, recognising the company’s commitment to keeping exhibition stands out of landfill.

The stand was created with the creative input and vision of full-service design agency Bluestorm. Bluestorm was tasked by its client Chaucer to create a stand that represented its brand and vision, with a strong focus on its commitment to sustainable and ethically-sourced ingredients.

“We had a very clear vision for Chaucer, and needed to partner with the right stand-builder to bring our ideas to life in a sustainable way,” says John Basker, production director at Bluestorm. “This was the first time that Chaucer has exhibited at Food Ingredients Europe, and the idea was really to test the water and see if the show worked for them. But it was so successful – and they were so delighted with our stand design – that they are re-using a reconfigured version of the stand for their next exhibition.”

The Better Stands programme is implemented by event organisers such as FIE as part of a wider strategy to move the exhibitions industry away from single-use disposable stands.

“We’re thrilled to win this award,” continues John Basker. “Sustainability is a key part of our business at Bluestorm, and we know that it is of huge importance to our clients too. In order to bring our brand ideas to life, we have to partner with the right stand-builder, and we have been really pleased with how Smart Display took such an environmental approach to building our stand without any compromise to our creative vision.”

Chaucer’s stand will now be reconfigured for its next event at Cologne later this month, adapting its 6 x 4m construction to a 5 x 5m stand.
