Cutting edge
Following its relocation to bigger premises, Smart Display has invested into new, state-of-the-art equipment which brings its printing supply chain in-house.
Its new site – which is over two-and-a-half times the size of its previous premises – has afforded Smart Display the space to accommodate two specialist machines – a Jetrix and a Veloblade – for printing and cutting all types of materials up to 3.2 metres wide.
The investment will give Smart Display greater control over all aspects of creating exhibition stands from its core fabrics to more bespoke components such as logos and counter tops. As well as offering clients more scope to be creative from a design perspective, the approach also falls in line with Smart Display’s sustainability goals, with the potential to store and re-use clients’ bespoke custom elements.
Smart Display’s new Jetrix XGR320 is an LED UV printer with advanced colour-matching capabilities across a range of materials. Standing at 3.2 metres wide, the Jetrix works hand in hand with Smart Display’s new Velobade cutting system. Also 3.2 metres wide, this patented technology is capable of cutting a wide range of materials Foamex and acrylic up to 250mm in depth.

“This has transformed our print and design process,” says Smart Display’s print technician Gary Pickles. “Colour accuracy on-site is an essential element of exhibition stand design, and this technology ensures perfect matching across all of our materials for perfect consistency every time.
“As soon as our materials are printed, we can programme multiple jobs into the Velobade and have complete confidence that the shapes will be cut out with complete accuracy in line with the template supplied by our design department. It’s already increased our efficiency ten-fold from a time point of view but, more importantly, the end result is cleaner and more accurate with perfect lines and curves, and that’s what transforms a good exhibition stand into a great one.”
Weeks into its installation, both machines have already been put to good use creating bespoke logos, letters and fabrics for a range of clients, all of which are destined to be re-used from one exhibition to the next.

“We are bringing more of our supply chain in-house so we can be more competitive and efficient, but also to guarantee quality,” says Smart Display’s managing director Chris Stewart. “It’s an investment into giving clients peace of mind, and we know that the quality is under our control.”
Smart Display is now bringing new clients on board who want to explore the potential of bespoke and re-usable stand elements for their next exhibition stand.
